Boiler Replacement Cost: Factors That Determine Pricing

By Dave Stuart

Boiler Replacement CostMany homeowners absolutely love having a boiler in their home. The steady supply of hot water, the environmentally friendly creation of energy, and of course the major savings on energy bills are all well publicized benefits of having a boiler system in the home. Even the best boiler will someday need replacing, and that’s a cost many homeowner’s tend to put off for as long as possible, but should they?

There are many different factors that go into the cost of replacing a boiler, and the price of this plumbing service in one area can offer differ greatly than in another.

What Factors Affect Boiler Replacement Cost?

There are many factors that go into determining the cost. Numbers vary slightly between sources that keep track of these projects, but a general price range does develop. $3260 to $7060 is a range of one trusted source while another gives $4167 to $5735 as the main range. This shows the difference that pops up based on area, professionals, and the competition in the area.

Even with these differing numbers, generally it’s accepted that the overall average falls between $4800 and $5120. This is a median average. In some locations and situations the cost will be much higher while in others the cost will be lower, but this is the baseline area from which to work with.

The huge variance that falls on both side of that average for boiler work and replacement costs can be due to one big factor (such as only having one certified boiler repair specialist in the area who can thus set his/her prices) or multiple smaller ones.

Just a short list of factors affecting price include:

– Rates of the plumber who is hired
– Local competition in the area / level of business
– The amount of labor involved in the job
– The type/brand of new boiler being installed
– How many certified specialists are in the area

Look For Online Resources

When it comes to determining local boiler replacement cost, the Internet is a consumer’s best friend. Jumping online allows a homeowner to call various plumbing specialists who handle boilers in the area and compare prices, time frames for getting the boiler replaced, and other factors that are important to the homeowner.

Online ratings are important, but in this case certification to be a specialist in working with boilers needs to come first. No homeowner should allow an unlicensed or unapproved plumber to work on the boiler. Fortunately, there are many online resources listing those professionals who have been trained and certified for this very specific type of work.

Using all the online resources available to consumers makes it easier to see what options there are for lowering the cost to a level that more easily fits into the homeowner’s budget.

While having a general idea of what this process costs is definitely a good idea, in the end the only way to know for sure what the boiler replacement costs in an area are going to be is for the homeowner to collect the quotes from local providers.
